About Alyssa Norbeck

Do you feel overwhelmed, anxious, or on edge? Are your usual coping skills no longer working for you?

Alyssa is here to support you!

Alyssa grew up in the Northwest suburbs and understands the pressures and anxieties that everyday life can bring.  As a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional, she has extensive training in treating panic disorder, specific phobias, generalized anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and more.  Alyssa is passionate about helping tweens, teens, and adults live well with anxiety and depression. She also is skilled in supporting adolescents and adults who may be struggling with trauma, substance use/addictions, stress management, life transitions, self-esteem/confidence building, chronic pain/chronic illness, and relational issues.

Alyssa is a trauma-informed therapist and trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).  EMDR utilizes the natural healing process of the brain to help people process difficult life experiences. In addition to being evidence-based for treating trauma and PTSD, EMDR has also been shown to be beneficial for treating anxiety, phobias, OCD, addictions, and grief.

"Stress responses are part of our natural fight, flight, or freeze instincts. When distress from a disturbing event remains, the upsetting images, thoughts, and emotions may create an overwhelming feeling of being back in that moment, or of being “frozen in time.” EMDR therapy helps the brain process these memories, and allows normal healing to resume. The experience is still remembered, but the fight, flight, or freeze response from the original event is resolved." -EMDRIA

Alyssa obtained her Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Southern California.  She has worked with a variety of age groups presenting with a range of clinical issues in individual and group settings.  She has worked with clients in private practice, mental health and substance use intensive outpatient programs (IOP), crisis management and stabilization, and in skilled nursing facilities/long term care.  Alyssa also enjoys supporting college students and has experience with leading a small group of college females to help them process life’s stressors and progress spiritually, emotionally, and relationally.

She utilizes a wide variety of techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). She recognizes that therapy is not “one size fits all”, and is excited to partner with you to meet your individualized goals.

Alyssa understands that it can feel vulnerable and intimidating to begin therapy, but she is passionate about making therapy a safe space where you can feel heard and understood. Her therapeutic style is empathetic, nonjudgemental, creative, and individualized.
